Religious Customs

You much take off your footwear (shoes, socks and stockings) when entering Buddhist Temples, Pagoda and religious environs.
Do not shout and laugh loud in the religious environs.
Do not point with your feet towards to a monk or pagoda.
Do not offer to shake hand to a Monk or a Nun.
Female should not touch Monk.
Do not offer food to a Monk, Nun after noon time.


Avoid hugging and kissing in public.
Not always necessary to shake hands.
Most Myanmar people not wearing shoes in their homes. Need to be taken off your shoes when visiting.


Do not eat food purchased from street vendors.
Do not drink tap water.
Eat only in proper restaurants for hygiene reasons.


Do not leave expensive items in your accommodation.
