The hill Resort capital, over 1400 meters above sea level. Major attraction of Taunggyi is its Market, colorful dressed members of the regions various hill tribes flock there. Kakku Pagoda complex is another attraction of Shan State (about 42 km south of Taunggyi).
Kalaw sits high on the western edge of the Shan Plateau. This was a popular hill station in the British days and it is still a peaceful & quite place with an atmosphere reminiscent of the colonial era. The place is beautiful & cool with fragrant pinewoods, perfect for trekking trip.
The limestone cave containing thousands of Buddha images in various sizes, styles & shapes, is the main destination in this region. The scenic Aungban – Pindaya road passes through the Pa-O and Danu villages where there are fields of dry-cultivated mountain rice along the way and potato fields. Local handicrafts include Shan Paper & Umbrella making are attraction of Pindaya.
