It has been described as Mt. Fuji of Myanmar or Mt. Olympus of Myanmar. About 50 km from Bagan, rising to 1518 meters above the sea level. Mt. Popa is popularly recognized as an abode of many spiritual beings. On clear day, the view from its majestic height towering over the vast day plain is the most beautiful panorama. A visit to Mt. Popa will defiantly make you feel younger at least by ten years.
Developed as the expending spiral of Bagan’s influence moved southward along the Ayeyarwady River. It’s most famous as the historic home of Salay U Ponya, a Bagan Era writer/Poet. Some places to visit are Yoke Sone Monastery, Tha-ta-na Kyaung where Tipitaka texts are housed in a large red lacquered cabinet.
